Leading Fight Against Crime

Tony McNulty MP, the Minister for security, counter-terrorism and policing came to Lewisham recently, and I took him to Lewisham High Street to meet members of the Safer Lewisham Partnership.

We looked at the Partnership's recent successes in reducing robbery and anti-social behaviour in Lewisham. From April 1st to August 12th there were 583 robberies in Lewisham compared with 814 during the same period last year - a 39.6% reduction.

The Partnership consists of Lewisham's police, primary care trust, fire and probation services and independent community forum from the Lewisham Police Consultative Group.

We also discussed local crime issues with Len Duvall, the local member of the GLA and Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority and Chief Superintendent Alan Pughsley, the Police Borough Commander.
