Welcome to my regular column for my constituents: 16th July 2007 | |
It’s been a very busy and exciting time over the last few weeks, and at times like this I’m reminded why this new website is such a useful and easy way to communicate with you all. On 28th June I received a call from our new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, asking if I would be happy to continue my work at the Ministry of Justice. Of course I said I’d be delighted! The Prime Minister has rightly emphasised the importance of constitutional reform and I’m very enthusiastic about bringing about progress in the other policy areas with which I’ve been entrusted. I’ll be working hard on family and civil law, social exclusion, compensation culture and legal service reform. Needless to say, that won’t stop me from spending lots of time in Lewisham and getting out and about. Last week I was supporting The Publican’s ‘Proud of Pubs’ week by visiting The Dacre Arms and pulling a few pints – it’s a hard job but somebody’s got to do it! You might also have seen me at Lewisham’s People’s Day where I was helping out at the Labour Party stand as well as exploring everything else that was going on. With recess approaching I’m planning to visit as many parts of the constituency as I can. If you’re involved in a community project, school event or good cause in your area then why not invite me along?
