On 30th June I attended the Grove Park Community Group Summer Fete, and was proud to take part in the dedication of a memorial bench to Henry Dalorto.

A Founder Member of the Community Group and then its Chair, Henry Dalorto was one of the leaders of the campaign to oppose the Ringway Project in the late 1980s. This was an ill-conceived plan by the Conservative government to extend the South Circular through SE London - which would have gone straight through the site of the Community Group's building on Baring Road.

Henry was a tireless and committed community campaigner on local development issues - recently opposing the building of the Yellow Box storage warehouse on Baring Road and the construction of mobile phone masts in the area - contributing his considerable engineering expertise to the campaign.

It was a privilege to join Henry's family and friends for this moving tribute.
