Welcome to my regular column for my constituents: 9th August 2007 | |
The past few days have certainly been eventful for those keen on good service and value for money in local government.
The background is that an ex-Liberal Democrat Councillor, after facing serious allegations of perjury, has failed to attend council meetings for six months. This non-attendance has triggered a by-election to be held on 13th September. Finally, Whitefoot residents will have a chance to send a message to the Lib Dems who let them down by fielding a candidate so manifestly unfit for elected office. Labour’s candidate is a man I respect and know well. His name is Skip Amrani and I hope you’ll give him the same support and encouragement that I’ve enjoyed as your MP. As luck would have it, I’ll be joining the Whitefoot Safer Neighbourhood Team next week to learn about the good work they do. If you see me out and about don’t hesitate to let me know what is on your mind, or simply just say ‘hello’!

Both The Mercury and The Newsshopper have run large stories focussing on the announcement of a by-election in Whitefoot.
