Making a splash at Downham Leisure Centre

Group shot

Bridget met up with some of her friends and colleagues at Downham Health & Leisure Centre recently to mark a great new Government policy - free swimming for the over-60's.

Culture Secretary Andy Burnham, Health Secretary Alan Johnson, Communities Secretary Hazel Blears and Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell all chose Downham as the place to make this announcement as it's one of the best Health and Leisure Centres of its type anywhere in the country.

"It was great to see so many ministers all flocking to this constituency to learn from what we're doing in Lewisham and to make this great announcement about free swimming for the over-60's", said Bridget.

"It's going to be great for improving people's health and their quality of life. By 2012 we'd like to see 2 million more people involved in sport and this is a brilliant start."
