Welcome to my regular column for constituents: 17th October 2007

Youth Conference With Parliament returned, my work on the Legal Services Bill has become very intense and it makes returning to Lewisham all the more welcome after the end of a long day.

Last week I attended a special Question Time event held by Lewisham Mencap, which I found extremely interesting and informative. I think the evening was a great success and it's certainly something that other local organisations could emulate.

My first constituency report has begun to be distributed and I hope that everyone will have recieved a copy by the end of the month. Inside you will find all sorts of information about where I've been over the last few months, what I've been doing to help my constituents and ways in which you can contact me. You can read an online version in the 'Publications' section of this website.

I must also confess that I tried my hand at speed-dating! Political speed-dating, that is.

Last week I hosted a youth democratic engagment in central London. The idea was for young people to chat to MPs for three minutes and allow us to persuade them of the benefits of getting involved in politics. The youth of today are the decision-makers of tomorrow so I think it's vital that they are passionately interested in issues as diverse as climate change, crime and local transport. The event was a great success and I will be looking to host something similar in Lewisham in the future!
