PC Daniel Coffill

“I stand by police and parents” says Bridget Prentice MP

Bridget Prentice today voiced her alarm at the successful appeal of two violent thugs.

Jack Turner and Lance Samuels savagely attacked off-duty police officer PC Daniel Coffill on Queen’s Road, Bromley in 2005 and were given sentences of nine and eight years respectively. A recent decision by the Court of Appeal has reduced those sentences by two years as well as quashing their periods of licence.

As a Minister at the Department for Constitutional Affairs, Bridget is at the centre of Government activity to give the relatives of victims more of a voice in the legal process. “I’m deeply saddened by the success of this appeal”, said Bridget. “This was a horrifying attack on a model citizen; a young man who served our community and helped keep Lewisham safe. I have written to the Attorney General to stress my concerns and to find out if PC Coffill’s parents could have been given some prior knowledge of the appeal.”

“I want to know whether this latest decision can be reversed”
